Google Gemini: AI settings for parents
For kids under 13 with a Family Link account, you can switch Gemini off. Teens with their own account manage it themselves.
Can a parent turn it off? Yes, you can turn it off
Yes, for kids with a supervised Family Link account. You can switch Gemini Apps off in Family Link. Teens who run their own account can't be controlled this way.
What the AI feature is
Gemini is Google's AI chatbot. It comes as its own app, shows up on Android phones, and is built into other Google apps.
Age rules
- Kids under 13 (or the age where you live) can use Gemini only with a Google account a parent supervises through Family Link.
- Teens 13 and up can manage their own Google account and use Gemini. Google says some features are for adults only.
- Google says supervised kids can't use Gemini in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK.
Step by step

- Open the Family Link app, or go to familylink.google.com.
- Choose your child.
- Tap Controls, then Gemini.

- On some older versions, the path is Controls → Content restrictions → Gemini → Gemini Apps.

What parents should know
- Changes can take a few hours to show up on your child's device.
- Google emails the parent the first time a supervised child starts using Gemini.
- Gemini can make mistakes. Google suggests telling kids it is not a person and that they shouldn't share private things with it.
