Roblox: AI settings for parents
AI translates chat, helps build avatars, and checks ages. There's no single AI switch, but you can turn off chat.
Can a parent turn it off? Partly
Partly. Roblox has no single “turn off AI” switch. You can limit chat, which is where most AI features show up, and your kid can turn chat translation off in Settings.
What the AI feature is
Roblox uses AI in a few places. It translates chat between languages automatically, can build an avatar for you (Avatar Auto Setup), and uses AI for safety, including face-based age checks for chat.
Age rules
- Roblox is open to all ages. Parental controls change with age.
- From age 13, some settings move to your teen. For teens 16 and up, parents only get notifications.
Step by step
Open Parental Controls
- Sign in to your own Roblox parent account.
- On a computer, click the gear icon. On a phone, tap More, then Settings.
- Tap Parental controls, then pick your child.

Lock down chat
- Under “Settings you manage”, open Communication.
- Turn off Experience chat and Direct chat, or set them to who your child can talk to.
- Set Friends chat to “No one” if you want.
- Set Live collaboration in Studio to “No one”, and turn Quick Words off if you want.

Turn off automatic chat translation (on your kid's account)
- In an experience, open the Settings menu.
- Turn off “Automatic Chat Translation”. Messages will then show in the language they were written in.

What parents should know
- Turning chat off also stops your kid from seeing AI-translated messages from strangers.
- Roblox may ask for a face scan (through Persona) to check age before unlocking some chat features.
Not confirmed yet

- A parent-level setting just for Roblox's AI tools, such as Avatar Auto Setup. We couldn't find one on Roblox's help pages. Source
